Expansion Will Add Additional Manufacturing Jobs in Northeast
March 3, 2015 (Philadelphia) – “As a global leader in helicopter assembly, training and support for civil and military customers, it should come as no surprise that AgustaWestland will expand its portfolio to include the AW609 TiltRotor. We are particularly pleased that production will occur in Philadelphia.
We are showing the world that Philadelphia can and will make things again – that manufacturing is growing and becoming an ever-increasing piece of our economic future.
As elected officials, we represent many of the 560+ Philadelphians employed by AgustaWestland and look forward to working with the company to grow its already high-quality workforce. This is another substantial step forward for the continued growth of manufacturing and industry in the Philadelphia region and the family-sustaining jobs that follow.
Congratulations to AgustaWestland on this tremendous news and thank you to Bill Hunt, AgustaWestland CEO, and the entire team for their continued commitment to our city.”
Councilman Bobby Henon represents Philadelphia’s 6th Councilmanic Distirct and served as co-chair of the Manufacturing Matters Task Force along with Bill Hunt, AgustaWestland CEO; Dan Fitzpatrick, President of Citizens Bank Pennsylvania and Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce CEO; and Alan Greenberger, Philadelphia Deputy Mayor for Economic Development.
Councilman Brian O’Neill represents Philadelphia’s 10th Councilmanic District in Northeast Philadelphia, which includes the 39-acre AgustaWestland facilities at the Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
