Councilman Henon introduced one bill today. Its aim is to clarify existing language in section 20-607 of the Ethics Code, which relates to conflicts and disclosure of conflicts for city officials and city employees.
Additionally, Councilman Henon made the following statement regarding the introduction of legislation for a Container Tax:
"Today, the introduction of the container tax proposal made the myth of a grocery tax a reality. The container tax touches nearly every drink on your grocery store shelves. Compared to the sugar sweetened beverage, this tax will be impossible to avoid. And most importantly, this container tax is said to generate only $64 million dollars. That’s at least $30 million dollars short of the money we need to fund our recreation centers, community schools and universal pre-k.
While I welcome the conversation and debate about this proposal, I encourage everyone to remember that we need to build consensus around a proposal that will enable us to fully fund the programs we’ve all expressed our support for."
