As part of Mural Arts Month, Councilman Henon joined Mural Arts Executive Director Jane Golden, representatives from the Free Library and staff of the Tacony LAB, LAB artists-in-residence Nick Cassway and Mariel Capanna, and community members to celebrate community art at LAB Fest on Thursday, October 27.
During his remarks, Councilman Henon praised the value added to the community through art and the incredible inter-agency cooperation that it took to make the Tacony Library and Arts Building not only a reality, but also a success.
"In the few short months since we opened the LAB, it has become an integral part of this community. From programming to arts education and from library services to community engagement, the LAB is serving the neighborhood by offering something for kids, adults and families to enjoy. Plus, the LAB, with the support of my office, Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Free Library of Philadelphia, is enlivening Tacony with art - art that reflects on and tells the story of this great community," said Councilman Henon.
The event included the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the temporary solar parklet, a screen printing workshop, guided walking tours to see the mural-in-progress, a fresco, and an art exhibit with refreshments.
