"In celebrating my own 25 years as a card-carrying member of IBEW Local 98, I want to wish each and every member of the labor family a safe and happy Labor Day, a holiday where every hard working American should take pride in our work. Together, we've continued to make advances in workplace safety, retirement security and worker protections – but we can’t stop there. Let’s remember what union membership means to everyone.
President Kennedy reminded us that “our labor unions have raised wages, shortened hours, and provided supplemental benefits. Through collective bargaining and grievance procedures, they have brought justice and democracy to the shop floor.”
As we continue to fulfill the vision President Kennedy described decades ago, let’s also keep working for the respect and dignity we deserve, because labor principles are American principles. We don’t wait for things to happen, we make things happen!"
