Councilman Henon Reacts to Supreme Court, Nativity BVM Ruling
Ruling Paves Way for Senior Housing
(July 22, 2014) Philadelphia – “Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned a Commonwealth Court decision that prevented a project at the former Nativity BVM School (3255 Belgrade St.) from moving forward that was previously granted a variance by the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
By reaffirming that previously stated zoning relief, the Supreme Court struck a heartening victory for our seniors and set us on a path to remove a blighted, abandoned property from our neighborhood, all at once.
I am relieved and thankful that the court, by a vote of 6-1, has agreed with the community and excited for the neighborhood that more than 60 seniors will soon have access to quality, safe and affordable housing. I wish to thank everyone who came together in this effort, including the Archdiocese, Catholic Social Services, State Representative John Taylor, community and civic groups like Port Richmond Community Group, PROPAC and others.”
