On Wednesday, August 10, Philly Play hosted its biggest and most challenging free and fun play event of the summer - the 2016 Summer Challenge! The 2016 Summer Challenge was a two plus mile obstacle course by ABF Mud Run. We had special help from the U.S. Army, National Guard and Air Force, but this was a tough course that included low crawls and scaling over walls.
Shout out to State Rep. Kevin Boyle, City of Philadelphia Chief Education Officer Otis Hackney, Parks and Rec. Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell and State Rep. Mike Driscoll for coming and helping out with the Summer Challenge!
In total, nearly 1,000 Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Philly Play campers braved the heat to tackle this exciting course. After they ran, jumped, climbed, pulled and crawled the distance, campers enjoyed fencing, a dance party, lunch and Philadelphia Water Ice.
But the Summer Challenge wasn't just for Philly Play campers, any Philadelphia child could come by and enjoy the fun.
