Playground Equipment Restored After February Fire
November 24, 2014 (Philadelphia) - The playground at Pleasant Hill Park officially re-opened for play this weekend after much of the playground equipment was restored or replaced following a February fire.
Councilman Bobby Henon (6th District) committed approximately $34,000 in equipment, working with the Departments of Parks and Recreation and Public Property on its installation. Councilman Henon also secured an additional $47,000 for new security cameras to help monitor the area and deter repeat incidents.
"Pleasant Hill is a true jewel among play and recreation resources in the 6th District," Councilman Henon said. "I am thrilled with the response of the City agencies involved in both responding to the fire and assisting in rebuilding the damaged equipment. It's fantastic that we can have the entire park space back in full-operation to get kids out and active."
The playground is part of the larger renovated Pleasant Hill Park that has undergone substantial updating in recent years, following investments from Councilman Henon's predecessor, Councilwoman Joan Krajewski, and a number of partners at the City and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania levels.
