(Philadelphia) - Councilman Bobby Henon, today, announced plans for a telephone town hall, Wednesday, June 10 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the Philadelphia Prison system and Bill 150406 with Philadelphia Prisons Commissioner Louis Giorla. The bill, currently on the final passage calendar in City Council, would give the City authority to purchase land at 7777 State Rd. with the possibility of constructing a prison to replace the 141-year-old House of Corrections.
The call will give residents from the surrounding Holmesburg community, and all of Philadelphia, a chance to call-in and discuss both the bill and the state of Philadelphia prisons with the Councilman and Commissioner. Callers will dial in and, following short opening statements, will submit questions to a queue. The speakers will attempt to answer as many concerns as they can within the hour-long call.
Callers who submit questions that are not answered within the one-hour call will be added to a list for follow-up replies following the conference.
In addition, residents are encouraged to read more about the bill and discussion around the replacement prison by visiting www.bobbyhenon.com/getthefacts. They will find:
